Repair, Maintenance and Installation of Ductless Mini-Split Systems in the Phoenix, AZ Metro

What are Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioner Systems?

Ductless mini-split air conditioners work in buildings that can't accommodate ductwork. The split ductless system uses an outside condenser and tubing runs from the condenser to high-mounted blowers inside the building. The cooled air is then distributed throughout the building.

The indoor portion of the unit blows warm air from your home over cold evaporator coils. The refrigerant running through these coils absorbs the heat from the atmosphere. The hot air is then transferred and eliminated by the outside unit.

How do Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioner Systems Work?

At their heart, ductless mini-split air conditioners use the same technology like the air source heat pumps used in millions of central cooling and heating systems. They don't need ducts because mini-split systems have indoor air handlers connected directly to an outdoor compressor/condenser. The electrical and refrigerant lines require a single three-inch hole through an outside wall linking the indoor and outdoor units. The air handlers deliver the conditioned air directly to specific rooms or areas.

As many as eight air handlers can connect to a single outside unit, each room can have a different temperature for complete comfort control—a great way to save energy by not cooling unoccupied rooms.

Why You Should Consider A Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioner System

With traditional central HVAC systems, ductwork can waste up to 30% of the conditioned air because it never makes it to the rooms—ductwork issues include leaks, bad design, and poorly insulated ducts. Mini-split systems deliver the conditioned air directly to the places where it's needed, thereby cutting your monthly utility bills. A Ductless mini-split air conditioner is the perfect choice for homes with radiant heat or new additions not connected to the existing ductwork.

A mini-split system does have drawbacks. It will cost more upfront than a traditional central air conditioner, especially if you already have ductwork installed.  Some people don't like the looks aesthetically since the air handlers require mounting on an interior wall.  There are many styles to choose from to limit those concerns.
